amazing lessons from john mason 'imitation is limitation'

Okay friends, my most recent read this month is the book ‘imitation is limitation’, written by john mason. I fell in love with john mason some years ago after I read ‘the enemy called average’, and since then his books has been my go-to for inspiration and motivation. Here are some amazing messages that got to me while reading the book. I hope you also find it encouraging!

When you’re trying to be like someone else, the best you can be is second best.

The person who trims himself to suit everybody will soon whittle himself away.

You can fall down many times, but you won’t be a failure until you say that someone else pushed you.

There may be many reasons for failure, but not a single excuse. Never let a challenge become an alibi.

Self image sets the boundaries and limitations for each of our individual accomplishments.

Remember, you are your own doctor when it comes to curing cold feet, hot head, and a shitty attitude.

The door swings on the hinges of adversity. Problems are the price of progress.

Perseverance is the result of a strong will; stubbornness is the result of strong won’t

The best jobs haven’t been found. The best work hasn’t been done. Unless you take on more than you can possibly do, you will never do all that you can possibly do, you will never do all that you can.

Yesterday ended last night. So today is more valuable to look ahead and prepare than to look back and regret.

It takes time to succeed because success is merely the natural reward of taking time to do anything well-Joseph Ross

Regret looks back. Worry looks around. Vision looks up

It is more valuable to look at where you’re going than to see where you’ve been.

There are 2 quick ways to disaster: taking nobody’s advice and taking everybody’s advice. Learn to say no to the good so you can say yes to the best.

The pursuit of excellence is gratifying and healthy; the pursuit of perfection is frustrating, unproductive, and wasteful.

Success lies not in achieving what you aim at, but in aiming at what you ought to achieve

There is no such thing as a “self mad man”, we’re all made up of thousands of others.

He who fiddles around seldom holds the orchestra. Attack procrastination by: eliminating all excuses and reasons for not taking decisions and immediate action.

Perfection, fortunately, is not the best alternative for mediocrity. A more sensible alternative is excellence. Striving for excellence rather than perfection is stimulating and rewarding. Striving for perfection in practically anything is frustrating and futile.

Fear of criticism is the kiss of death in the courtship of achievement.

When you add passion to belief, it becomes a conviction. Conviction gets more work done than belief, or even dream.

Never undertake anything for which you wouldn’t have the conviction to ask the blessing of heaven. A small man stands on others. A great man stands on God.

Wow friends, I hope you enjoyed these amazing lessons from the book ‘imitation is limitation’. I hope it inspires you to:

-love and appreciate who God has made you to be

-stop comparing yourself with others

-persevere and keep pursuing your dreams

-put God at the center of all you do.
