4 LESSONS TO LEARN FROM FAILURE
Life is the way we see it. We see things not the way they are but the way we perceive them. This explains the reason for conflict of opinions. Our perception is a product of our belief system, value system, thought pattern and our life experiences. There are tremendous lessons to be learnt from failure that are necessary for our success and this why failure is seen as a stepping stone to success.
- We learn from failure
Failure blesses us with knowledge and expression. I remember while in school, that whenever I failed a question and took the correction afterwards, I never forget the correct answer to that question again. My failing the question has made me familiar with it such that wherever I see the same question again, it’s impossible for me to fail it again.
I have not failed, I just found 10,000 ways that won’t work – Thomas Edison
- We learn resilience and flexibility
The more we fail, the more resilient we find ourselves becoming. Sochiro Honda success story illustrates this fact. A rejection by Toyota, building a factory after several painstaking years only to have it bombed, rebuilding the factory and having it destroyed by an earthquake couldn’t stop the founder of one of the world’s largest automobile from trying again.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again and this time, more intelligently – Henry Ford
- Failure helps us to grow
This can only be possible when we pick the lessons from failure and move on. Fixating on them not only leaves us stunted but affects every other aspect of our life. Learn to take the meat and discard the bone.
Success involves growing from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm – Winston Churchill
- Failure teaches us value
Failure teaches us to value our success. Imagine the amount of value Sochiro Honda will place on his company considering the amount failures he experienced. Our failures teaches to value our success. They remind us of the journey and the sacrifices we had to make in achieving that success.
Failure doesn’t mean the end of the world and doesn’t mean we are worthless. Failure is a life teacher and an essential experience in our existence. Learn from your failures and move on
It is fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure – Bill Gates
