Sometimes the bitter truth is the best wakeup call!
Nobody is indispensable; sometimes that simple truth is the best wakeup call.
A writer once said ‘you must learn to tell yourself the bitter truth at all times; because you are your greatest adviser, critic, and motivation….’ Sometimes we approach our dreams and tasks with much ease because we believe we are the best…we take our time to perfect a particular skill or complete a task because of the ‘I am the best or I have time’ mentality. In times like that when we are so full of ourselves and overly relaxed, I have discovered that the best wakeup is the brutal and honest truth! Yes, I can say that because very recently I just had a dose of some ‘honest truth’ given to me; and believe me, it wasn’t funny.
I told you guys earlier that I enrolled for an advanced class in beauty and skin care, right? Well, the class was meant to last for 4 weeks, but I found myself in that class for 6 weeks!-you can ask me why…
The reason was simple; I was the only student my mentor was tutoring at the time, and I had it wrapped up somewhere in my head that I needed less practice because I was a natural at it…. The day I made up my mind to tell my tutor that I was done with the class, she looked at me and told me the truth I needed to hear
‘Hmmm, so you want to stop? My dear, you are still very far behind, and the 4 weeks you paid for has already elapsed….’
I felt my spirit deflate like a balloon at her words and I was deeply saddened; but at the same time I was awakened to the fact that I need to work harder and faster….I took her advice and went straight to intense work to better myself and make up for my lost days…
Sometimes the truth is quite bitter to hear; but accepting it and working with it can be the best wakeup call you can ever have! We need someone to remind us that no matter how good we think we are, if we don’t work hard, we will never be better. It’s true some people will tell you this truth in a very careless way or to spite you….but we should learn to separate the bone from the meat when it comes to the ‘criticism’ and ‘truth’ we receive from people. Most truth don’t come in the nicest way, and most people don’t know how to voice their opinions tactically; but we must make the decision to take the necessary lessons from their advice and discard the rest.
Believe it or not, we need people who will remind us of this ‘brutal truth’ around us. This is because as we grow in life, especially in success, fame and power, we are very likely to be surrounded by people who will only tell you what you want to hear, and not what you need to hear… I made the decision to still have people who will always tell me the truth about myself around me…because I don’t want to get to a point when my personality cannot recognize my ambition.
I had quite an experience, but I’m glad she gave me that wakeup call!
